Art by Jan Folan

My creative process

Yorkshire is a constant inspiration  for many of my seascape and landscape  pieces, from its seaside towns and quaint villages to the rugged terrain of the moors with its procession of colourful heathers.

At a first glance you may think they are paintings. Take a closer look and it may surprise you to find that I create my collages from tiny pieces of paper.

I begin with a simple drawing taken from a photograph. I  tear or precisely cut  paper and then carefully blend the colours to create a beautiful, colourful and textured piece of art...each piece of paper represents a brush stroke. I call it painting with paper.

Recently I have added sunsets, sunrises and colourful  skies to my landscape and seascape collections. The abundance of beautiful mixtures of colours  found in the sky never ceases to amaze me and I love how it can alter the mood of a piece of art.

You can see this in some of my recent seascapes of Whitby and surrounding areas and  my colourful landscapes of the Yorkshire Moors, which has been a focus of much of my recent work.

I want my art to evoke a variety of memories, emotions and sounds of your favourite places. So please take a look around my website.

If you do not see what you are looking for I  do  commissions. I would be more than happy to create a special memory piece of your favourite place or animal just for you or a loved one .
